Review: Holika Holika Petit BB Cream

Product Name: Holika Holika Moisture Petit BB Cream SPF 30 PA++
Product Price: $5.00-$13.00; I bought mine on ebay for $5.99
Where can I get it?: Ebay.com, Amazon.com
Pros: Creamy, Moisturizing, light-weight, perfect color, no grey-cast, beautiful application
Cons: Strong smell, bottle isn't big enough (in my opinion), not sold in the US

First Impression:
So, when I set out to get a BB cream, I just knew that I wanted something moisturizing. I found this in a set of 4 on Ebay; whitening, moisturizing, extra sunscreen, and anti-acne. I thought the moisturizing one looked interesting so I found it by itself and bought it. I was a little worried because I have tried 1 BB cream in the past and it...kinda sucked. But, this is a new day, a new product, and I gave it a good go. I'm so so so happy that I did!

Lasting impression:
This BB cream is absolutely incredible! When I put it on I was expecting what I got with the last one I tried (over 5 years ago): dry, cakey finish, gray-cat, bad smell, sticky...Instead it was creamy, smooth, non-cakey, SUPER moisturizing, and looked GREAT on my skin! It made my skin look so healthy and bright, well-rested and awake...I couldn't get over it! I stared at my face in the mirror for hours, just admiring what this product does for my skin. The only real "negative" to this product is the very strong florally scent that it has. I have a hard time not getting too much of that scent i my nose when I apply it, but quite honestly, if the worst part of this product is the smell...I will deal with it!

I would also highly suggest anyone looking for a BB Cream, buys one from Korea or Japan. The ones in the US are basically glorified tinted-moisturizers! Some companies (*cough* CoverGirl *cough*) have openly admitted that their "BB Creams" are re-packaged versions of their tinted-moisturizers that they have made in the past. They are cheap and easy to acquire, yes. But it's just not worth it for a crap product. You're much better off ordering, or getting an adult to order for you, a proper BB cream from Japan or Korea...Apart from shipping as well, they are not overly-expensive. This one I bought on Ebay for $5.99 with FREE SHIPPING! That's more thn worth it in my opinion!

Verdict
:
I absolutely adore this BB cream, I want it forever! And if it is ever discontinued I will cry actual tears of pure sadness. Then die. Maybe.

Would I recommend this to a friend?:
YES! Sweet mother of pearl, YES! If you don't use this I highly recommend you do!

Would I repurchase?:
I already have, and will continue to!

Score out of 5 cuppy-cakes:5 out of 5 cuppy cakes!! Can't get much better!

Monthly Faves March 2013

~ Nyx Powder Blush in "Bourgeois Pig": This is a bright pink shimmery blush that is absolutely gorgeous! Nyx makes great powder blushes; they're never overly powdery, more like, creamy...also they are all super pigmented and blend so beautifully. I have others but this is my fave for the month of March.

~ Bag Balm: This. Stuff. Is. A. MA. ZING. I use it for my hands, feet and any other really dry skin on my body. Now I will say, the smell of it is very acquired; I love it but I've heard that a ton of people hate it, so... What Bag Balm was originally for was to heal the chapped udders of cows in Vermont! But it works great on human skin as well! I use it primarily in the Winter when my skin can get so dry it cracks. It is better than Vaseline in my opinion, and I only have to use a little bit for my hands to be silky soft!

~ Olay Quench Daily Lotion Plus Shimmer: This is my regular hand lotion. I also use it on the rest of my body when I want the shimmer and smell to be all over me. I absolutely love this lotion! It smells like a Pina Colada, and the shimmer effect is just lovely! It's also very very good at moisturizing and healing dry skin, so not only is it functional, it's beautiful. I keep one bottle in the bathroom and one on my desk.

~ Ruby Kisses Eyeshadow Magic Primer: I love to try out new eyeshadow primers in the hopes of finding one as good as my Too Faced Shadow Insurance at a lower price. Well, I think I have in this one! It blends in and leaves a slightly tacky finish so the shadows really stick to it well, and it has never caused my shadows to crease, fade, flake, or smudge. I got it on ebay for about $6.99.

~ MAC Paint Pot in "Blackground": This is my favorite color base for my black smokey-eye look. I always use a primer underneath, so I'm unsure if it creases etc. on it's own. But it is perfectly black and just a hint shimmery and makes the perfect base for any dark shadow look. I keep mine from drying out by storing it upside-down, and screwing the lid on as tight as possible.

~ Maybelline Expert Eyes eyeshadow quad in "Sunlit Bronze": This is my absolute favorite quad from the drugstore. I've had my first one for years and only just hit pan on one of the colors, so I had to run out and get another one. Yeah, I never want to be without this quad; I hope they never discontinue it!

~ ELF Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick in "Flirty and Girly" and "In the Nude": These are beautiful colors! "Flirty and Girly" is a super glittery hot pink, and "In the Nude" is a lovely muted nude color. These have a minty scent, are smooth, creamy, super-pigmented, and rather than having to sharpen the product, it screws-upwards (so no need for a giant sharpener). Plus, they only $2.00 each!!

~ Hard Candy Glossaholic lipglosses in "Tipsy" and "Icing": These glosses ROCK! I just love everything about them; the chunky wand, the taste, the smell (vanilla buttercream frosting), and they have a gorgeous effect on the lips. They have large chunks of glitter in them but for some reason I can't feel them. The glitter is iridescent too, so it gives a beautiful shine as well.

~ Hard Candy Glossaholic Energizing lipgloss in  "Coffee": Hell if I know, if this is actually energizing...but I do love it for the fact that it's a great gloss!! It smells like black coffee (surprised me when I first smelled it), and is basically clear with rainbow-iridescent glitter in it. It's not sticky or goopy and I love the big chunky wand that it has!

~ Painted Lady Lip Color lipstick in "Fire Alarm": These lipsticks have sadly been discontinued. I managed to get this one on ebay by pure luck. It is a gorgeous nude, and it happens to be my perfect nude shade. The lipstick itself is creamy, smooth, has no scent, and lasts a good long time on your lips. I absolutely adore the packaging too, it looks like a little rocket!

~ Sally Hansen Plumping Lip Primer: I got this after seeing a woman on youtube using it. She has really beautiful, big lips so I really wanted to try it! It doesn't burn like a lot of lip plumpers do, rather it has a cooling sensation similar to the one you get from Burt's Bees peppermint lipbalm. It has collagen in it that is meant to help plump your lips, and I do see a difference when I use this product! It's also very moisturizing and smells of vanilla/cinnamon.

~ Pure Ice Nail Polish in "Feelin' Hot": This is the first time I have ever used this brand of nail polish, and I gotta say, they ROCK! They don't chip! I've been wearing this one for a week and there is barely any chipping! They come in beautiful colors and are only $1.97 at Wal-Mart! Such a bargain! I highly recommend these!

~ Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks Vivids in "Fuchsia Flash" and "Pink Pop": This line of lipsticks has been one of my favorites for a long time. I was stoked when they came out with this line of colors! The "Vivids" are a bunch of super bright, almost neon colors. The 2 that I got are a darker pink ("Fuchsia Flash") that is a dupe for MAC's lipstick in "Candy Yum Yum", and a lighter pink ("Pink Pop") that is a dupe for MAC's lipstick in "Saint Germain". I can't get enough of these, they are moisturizing, creamy, smooth, pigmented, and have a pleasant smell to them! What's not to love?

~ Holika Holika Petit BB Cream SPF30 PA++--Moisturizing Formula: This is my first BB cream, and I'm hooked. I will never be without this particular BB cream. It is SO moisturizing and smooth and creamy; also it makes me look bright and awake-well rested! It's just a gorgeous, wonderful, perfect product and I love it!

~ Laura Geller Balance and Brighten pressed mineral foundation powder in "Porcelain": This product I bought off of amazon a while back and have never regretted it. This works as a great powder foundation and is exactly my shade. It isn't overly powdery, more creamy, and it blends right into my skin to leave it looking healthy and fresh.

~ Waterproof Mascara in general: I've discovered how much I like waterproof mascara because I have found the ultimate waterproof mascara remover--coconut oil. So, since it is so easy to remove now, I don't mind using it and I love the benefits of using it as well: No Smudging whatsoever! No flaking or smearing, none of that. It's great!

~ Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in #1 "Black Ink": This gel eyeliner, though I love it dearly, I will not be re-purchasing because it is $23.00!! I will be getting one from MAC which is about $15.00 and does the same job. But anyway, if you have $23.00 to throw down on a gel eyeliner, this is a great choice! It is smooth, creamy, very opaque, and easily brought back to life---all you do is stir it up when it seems to have dried out and it will be just as fluffy and smooth as ever once again!

~ NYX Cream Blushes in "Boho Chic" and "Glow": Since Spring has sprung, I've been trying new types of makeup for the warm weather. These cream blushes are just what I need; they don't fade easily and are very sticky so powder can stick to them very easily and very sturdily to let your blush last all day. These are even great by themselves, which is how I've been wearing them; they blend like a dream.

~ Revlon ColorStay Mineral Finishing Powder in "Brighten": This is a discontinued (BOO!) product by Revlon that I managed to find on both Ebay and Amazon. This is a great product for both highlighting the face, as well as acting as an all-over eyelid color for lazy days. It has a great shimmer to is so it looks really pretty on the eyes, and it is also very hard pressed so it's hard to get too much product off of it.

Review: KleanColor Airy Minerals Loose Powder Blush in "Petal"

Product Name: KleanColor Airy Minerals loose powder blush in "Petal"
Product Price: $3-$4
Where can I get it?: Ebay or the KleanColor Official Website
Pros: Beautiful color, light and soft look, blends very well
Cons: PACKAGING SUCKS!!

First Impression:
I found this product on ebay and saw about 20-30 colors of blush. I love bright pink blushes so as soon as I came across this one, I decided to buy it. When it arrived I really liked the packaging! It's a little square clam-shell box with a cute little mirror inside!! I only ever uncover 2-4 holes on a sifter top to prevent a big mess from happening, which usually works.

Lasting impression:
OMG...omg...o...m...g...The packaging is absolutely HORRIBLE!! I wanted to use this blush because the blush itself is lovely. But I couldn't because when I opened the top to use it the first time, the product was EVERYWHERE! All over the mirror and piled over the sifter top! It was so messy I closed it right away and ignored it for a few weeks. Then it occured to me to get an empty sifter jar and put the product in that, so I could use the product but get rid of the horrible packaging. Well I did; as I tapped the box of blush to get it to slowly fall into the jar, BAM!! The entire sifter simply FELL out of the box! Just fell out! Blush everywhere! On me, on my desk, on the floor, on my clothes, everywhere! Luckily I managed to keep about 90% of the product in the jar, so I can use the blush finally.

Verdict:
I was so angry about this packaging, I wrote a letter of complaint to the company. The way it was so shoddily made is unacceptable. How are you gonna make a great prouct then put it in deplorable packaging?! Well, I've used the blush now in the sifter jar, and it's a great blush! Vibrant, blendable...wonderful! I'm planning to make the old packaging into a keep-sake box because though it couldn't hold the blush, it holds small solid objects very well. Plus I like the mirror on the inside of the lid. If you have the patience and time to re-pot this product, then go for it.

Would I recommend this to a friend?
:
I honest to Goddess wish I could. But I can't in all good conscience recommend this to anyone.

Would I repurchase?
:
If they heed my letter and fix the packaging, yes. If not, then not a chance in Hell.

Score out of 5 cuppy-cakes:1 cuppy-cake, because the product itself rocks; it lost 4 for the packaging.

Review: Wet n Wild Megalast Retractable Eyeliner

Product Name: Wet n Wild Megalast Retractable Eyeliner in #691A "Black
Product Price: $1.99-$2.99
Where can I get it?: Ebay, Amazon, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, CVS
Pros: Very black and pigmented, retractable, firm and not too soft
Cons: A bit dry, no sharpener, smudgey

First Impression:
I first saw this product in a youtube video of a girl getting ready. She applied this eyeliner and it went on like butter and stayed in place. I found a tube on Ebay and bought it for $2.99 (free shipping), and when it arrived I was a bit surprised. It was very cold outside and I think the eyeliner had been in the cold too long because it wouldn't mark my hand when I swatched it. I gave it a day to warm up before trying it out. When I tried it, it did drag a bit, but once it marked on my eye, I was surprised to see it stay in place very well. I was able to smudge it a bit with the smudger end and it looked just lovely.

Lasting impression:
After a day of wear, I have decided that I do like this eyeliner. It stayed very well on my lower lash-line and waterline, with minimal smudging. It didn't travel all over my face, but if I were to touch my eye by accident or for whatever reason, it would definitely come off and/or smudge. But for $2.99, what can you expect? Urban Decay quality? No. I think for what it is, it's not bad.

Verdict:
I actually ended up really liking this eyeliner! It is smooth and not overly creamy to the point that it melts when it hits your skin. Also if you don't rub your eyes while wearing it, it won't smudge and/or run. For $1.99-$2.99, I think this is a great choice, especially if you're working on a budget!

Would I recommend this to a friend?:
Yes, absolutely! Especially if I knew my friend couldn't get anything high-end for whatever reason.

Would I repurchase?:
I think I'm going to buy some back-ups of this product, so yes!

Score out of 5 cuppy-cakes:4 out of 5!! I would recommend anyone on a budget get this, it's pretty damn awesome!

Monthly Faves and Fails

~ Lovely Me:Ex Pastel Cushion Blusher in #04 Pink Cushion: I bought this blush from ebay after looking at it for about 2 months. Basically it's a light light pastel pink blush. It's VERY finely milled to the point where it is creamy-feeling in the cute little pot that it comes in. It gives my cheeks a cute glow but can't be worn on it's own because it is so incredibly light. But I love it and I love wearing it!!

~ Benefit Box-Blush in "Coralista": I have wanted this for (legit) 2 years!! I'd look for it on ebay and it would be mad expensive, so I'd pass it over. But my dad decided to be super kind and buy it for me when we went to Ulta the other week, and I just LOVE IT! I love the box, I love the way it smells, I love the shimmery corally-pink color...it's just fabulous and I can't get enough of it!!

~ ELF 3-in-1 Defining, Volumizing, and Lengthening Mascara: This mascara I got for $3 off the ELF website, and it's phenomenal! On the ELF website it has 4.5 star ratings, but honestly I'd give it 5 cuppy cakes. It does everything it claims, plus holds a curl, doesn't flake or smudge, and comes off easily. This is one of the best mascaras I own, and that's saying something because I own around 20.

~ Fergie CenterStage collection Shimmer Palette in "Rose Champagne Glow": This is part of the Fergie collection by Wet n Wild, it was $4.99 at my local Walgreens. This powder, for looking cheap-ish, is actually VERY hard pressed and wonderful! It reminds me of the Revlon Colorstay Mineral Finishing Powder in "Brighten" (which I also own), only this has more of a golden sheen to it where the Revlon has more of a white sheen. But, overall, this product ROCKS, I love it, and I use it every day!

~ Essence I <3 Extreme Volume Mascara: I'm well known (to myself) for loving mascaras with GINORMOUS brushes! I love the amount of volume big brushes give and this mascara did NOT disappoint me. Applying this carefully to avoid getting mascara everywhere, it gives a massive amount of volume, plus definition, and it is the blackest black mascara that I have ever used.

~ Essence Stay with me Long lasting Lipgloss in "Me and My Ice-cream": This product I have seen all over YouTube and I just had to try it for myself. It's a lovely pink color with a gorgeous scent that, in my opinion, smells like ice-cream and roses mixed together (an interesting combo, but a nice one nonetheless). It gives the lips a gorgeous sheen and a delightful hint of color, not opaque but not completely sheer either. This was the last one left on the shelf too! I grabbed it and am so happy I did!

~ JoJo loose Powder in "Transparent Glittery": This was an ebay buy that I wasn't sure would work out but, I saw the word 'glitter' and just went for it! I'm so glad I took a chance, this powder is wonderful! The glitter is very finely milled so it gives a very subtle effect to the face; the powder is completely transparent so you get the setting effect as well as the glitter effect without making your face look cakey and overdone.

~ NYC Smooth Skin Loose face powder in #741A "Translucent": This is my go-to loose powder. It's cheap ($2.99 for 20g), light, airy, finely-milled, doesn't sink into lines...I just love it and will always have it. Plus you can use it to catch fallout on your cheeks because it's so cheap you can "waste" product without worry.

~ Kat Von D "Sinner" palette in "True Romance": This palette my dad bought for me as a gift from Sephora. The colors range from a light pink highlight to a pure matte black. I love the matte black ("Lucifer"); this palette is perfect for my signature black smokey eye, or if I want to switch it up and do a dark purple smokey eye. The shadows have hardly any fallout and are pigmented as hell! You even get a little black eyeliner with the palette, which is pretty good, I haven't used it enough to give a fair review.

FAIL!!

This is a tale of disappointment...I love Too Faced, it's my favorite high-end brand. So when I saw a Too Faced Natural Eye palette for sale on ebay for only $21.00, I was like "SCORE!!" and bought it in 2 seconds flat. I did this about 3 years ago, and for the entire 3 years I've had it I've had nothing but issues with it. So I decided to get the full-priced Natural Eye palette from Ulta...WORLD OF DIFFERENCE!!! The one I bought 3 years prior was a major FAKE! The most obvious color is "Honey Pot", which in the real palette is a gorgeous yellow-y gold; in the fake its a PISS yellow!! Piss yellow!! Not a color I want on my eyelids!!! Negative 20000 cuppy-cakes for fake products; do not pass Go! Do not collect $200! Do NOT buy fake products!! If you are unsure if a product on ebay is fake or not, it probably is so just spend the extra, go to a legit seller and get the real thing.
